New Poll: When Will AutoML Replace Data Scientists (if ever)?

The new KDnuggets poll is asking: When will AutoML replace Data Scientists (if ever)?  Automated machine learning and data science are topics of hot discussion of late, and for good reason.

There are a plethora of tools having come available to data scientists over the recent past, providing a variety of automated capabilities ranging from data preprocessing, to data modeling, to model selection, to data visualization, and beyond.

What we would like to know is if and when you feel these tools will become capable enough to outright replace human data scientists.

We previously asked this question in a 2015 poll, so it will be interesting to compare the results of this iteration with the previous.

A recent popular KDnuggets blog, The Death of Data Scientists – will AutoML replace them?, written by Joseph Chin, specifically treated AutoML.

The article provided some insight using comparison metrics between humans and automation, such as costs and performance, and followed up with some discussion and interesting takeaways.

You may want to have a look at the article if you havent already done so.
